COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVE
(UCM60102U4)
To conclude, the fundraising was success. We learnt that things does not always go our way and through the issues and problems we encountered, we grow. One undeniable significant growth is our soft skills. Through this fundraising, we learnt to build our character, skills, soft skills, project managing, financially and much more. I would like to take this oppurtunity to appreciate and thank Taylor's University and lecturers for guiding and giving us something that is not obtainable academically. Not forgetting my team mates, without them, the success would be impossible.

Tasks

a) Sam’s Fur Kids & LassLost Animals Souls Shelter
- Dog Adoption Campaign
- Fund Raising Campaign
b) Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Klang Selangor (PPKKCK)
- Activity with kids
- Fund Raising Campaign

My team and I with a total members of 30 volunteered for the former as animals are pitier compared to humans. Humans are more willing to help another of its kind because they understand how each other feel but most of them could not care lessser, what more for stray ones? Therefore, the one in need more was picked.

2. Workshop 1 - Up Close and Personal
To be able to work with anything, first we have to understand what we will be working with. A workshop was held all they way at the Lass shelter in Kuala Selangor during the weekends to accommodate the students' schedule. Due to the reason that not everyone has dog at home or ever been in contact with them or even had bad experiences with the dogs, my team and I were taught the proper way to interact with dogs, stray dogs. Even for those who have dogs at home including myself, the experience with shelter dogs is totally different! Unlike home pets, these shelter dogs have their own stories, whether were they bullied by the community or even abandoned by their own owners making them not easily approachable. Fair amount of time was spent with them. From feeding to sitting and getting comfortable with each other until the gap between us and the shelter dogs closen up. Despite the time spent, all is worth when it was seen that the dogs are able to approach us willingly and we can even sit side by side as if we have known them for a long time!

3. Workshop 2 - Bathing timeeeee~
The first time was only the ice breaker knowing what was done during the second workshop. After evaulating how good we can be with the dogs, we were assigned a tougher task which is to wash the dogs. The shelter dogs were no puppy but all adults and some are pretty big. Avaiable and ready to help and guide us, we were taught right procedure and precautions that were needed to be attended. We went into small groups of three with one holding the dog while the other two washed. This is because most of the dogs are not a fan of water, with the tendency to run away present.

4. Fund Raising Porposal
Initial ideas for fundraising were
a) Food sale in campus
b) Postcards
c) 'Thank You' cards
d) Dog Illustrated Badges
e) T-Shirt
f) Tote bags
We settled with tote bags and badges after group discussions. The badges design were inspired by neko cats while the bags was a collaboration with Hanzhen Gallery. Hanzhen is an autism child with great talent in piano and also drawings. His dog drawings were used as a win-win situation to promote Hanzhen Gallery and dog awareness at the same time.

5. Fund Raising Process
Living in a world of technology where online interaction is far most efficient than physical meet ups in certain ways, our products were posted online to be shared, spread and sold. Most of the prodcuts sold were by kind friends and families as well as dog lovers and good hearted beings. With the help of social medias, selling our products was not the only success but we managed to raise awareness for LassLost Animal Sould Shelter as well.
